Wishing you were here.
Hi guys =]!
Sorry about not updating this tumblr for so long. I’ve gotten quite busy over the past few weeks with school, going to Macau, exploring more of the city- you know, the usual HK life.
I was motivated by a conversation with Chiyo earlier tonight to update my blog. I kind of forget about all the people who love me back home because I’ve been focused on how hard it is to find a similar community of people here in Hong Kong. I have to say that it’s been a tug of war of nerves to put myself out there and meet new people. However, it has paid off because I really like my floormates and random people I meet through friends or through classes. I’m slowly constructing a comfortable home here.
In case I didn’t didn’t say this to you when you checked up on me, THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT AND CARE. =] Knowing that I have such great friends back home gives me strength to get through my homesickness. I may get teary when I talk to you guys, but that’s just because my tear ducts are happy because of you.
Now I will proceed to update you with pictures of what I’ve been seeing and eating….. =]

MACAU
I went to Macau, the Las Vegas for HK people, last week in a group of 20 people. We took the ferry, which cost around USD$30 roundtrip. The ferries are huge, the inside looks like an airplane’s inside.

We stuffed 8 girls into a hotel room at the Rio.

We decided it would be ok since there won’t be too much sleeping going on. The main agenda was sight-seeing, gambling, getting massages, and clubbing for the group. I actually only went sight-seeing because I got really homesick and just went back to the hotel room after visiting the Venetian Hotel Casino. I took a nice long bath in the room’s awesome bathtub and had the room all to myself. =]
I did manage to go get some awesome Portuguese eggtarts (they have a flakier, more buttery crust than the normal eggtart and a caramelized top). This little shop only sells eggtarts and it’s crazy crowded with people. It took around 20 mins and waiting in 2 lines to get my eggtarts. I ate 3 eggtarts in a row. This is a picture of my friend’s eggtarts because I ate mine.

Macau also has a lot of specialty snacks - beef jerky, peanut candy, almond biscuits, pork chop buns, eggtarts, red bean panakes, and probably other stuff that I didn’t learn about.
This pancake making operation was in the store front, next to all the merchandise.

There are also a lot of famous ruins in Macau. The most famous is the St. Paul’s Cathedral. What remains is just the facade on top of a beautiful, long flight of steps.
Apparently, for those of you guys who watch K-dramas, the Korean version of “Boys over Flower” had scenes of the St. Paul ruins and some other famous places in Macau. I saw clips of “Boys over Flower” at a pork chop bun store that had the same Macau scene playing over and over again.

I have to agree, this place was beautiful and romantic, but it’s weird how it’s right next to very crowded streets selling Macau snacks and beef jerky. Romantic setting and cheap food right next to each other, maybe the “Boys over Flower” people were on to something…
I had to try some Portuguese desserts while I was in Macau to satisfy my sweet tooth. So there is is, biscuit pudding and er…. i forgot what the flan looking thing was…
