My Crib.

Here are the promised pictures of my dorm. You peoples with nice white walls concealing pipes and weird fixtures, be glad you have them. This place makes me miss my dorm at Muir (and people said that looked like a painted white jail cell).

Yes, that red thing is a sprinkler placed directly over where my head would be. All my belongings fit in this weird all-in-one bed-closet-desk thing they have here. I was told by my roommate Ariel that these things replaced normal and separate desk, closets, and beds to accommodate international students.

I have no idea what that fixture is for.

When I first entered my room, the floor was covered with dust and hair. Apparently there is a lot more dust in Hong Kong. The first thing I did after I got dropped off was sweep and mop the floor. Then I proceeded to wipe my cluster of furniture down with a rag and a basin of soap water. I think my intense cleaning spree weirded my roommate out a bit…

Oh yeah, I need to tell you guys about my roommate Ariel. She’s a 3rd year Business and Economics student here in HKU. That means she’s about to graduate because HKU uses the British 3 year college plan. It also means she’s probably a genius because HKU is famous for their business program. She’s originally from mainland China and can only understand Cantonese. She can speak English very well, and it is quite funny because she uses proper English such as “I am not too sure what to do today.” She has been awesome teaching me all the weird things about living in the dorms. For example, we use a SmartCard pay to use the AC in our room. We also have to turn on the water heater the way we turn on the lights (the switch is conveniently located near the entrance of the showers) before we shower, or we will be blasted with cold water.

I hope I do not come across sounding like a spoiled brat complaining about the downgrade I got with the dorms. =P
